SETUP
NEW
SERVER

Abstract technical background

Just notes to myself — like when I had to set up a fresh CentOS server and didn’t want to forget the steps. Small setups like this often trip me up, so I keep them here with the rest of my backend playbook.

Steps

Create app directory:
This directory for storing log service

mkdir app
cd /app
mkdir {service_name}
cd /{service_name}
mkdir logs

Go back to /home/user

cd /home/pandz3rd

Create another directory:

mkdir installer
mkdir script
mkdir jenkins

Download and put installer binary to /installer

Install java 17 centos:

sudo yum install java-17-openjdk
sudo yum install java-17-openjdk-devel

Export and check java installed:

export JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-17-openjdk-17.0.8.0.7-2.el8.x86_64
echo $JAVA_HOME

Check java installed in server:

sudo update-alternatives --config 'java'

Install maven centos:

sudo yum install maven

or you can download manually if want to install specific version

Extract maven:

sudo tar xf /home/admin.fds/installer/apache-maven-3.9.6-bin.tar.gz -C /opt

Set maven home:

sudo vi /etc/profile.d/maven.sh

export JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-17-openjdk-17.0.8.0.7-2.el8.x86_64
export M2_HOME=/opt/apache-maven-3.9.6
export MAVEN_HOME=/opt/apache-maven-3.9.6
export PATH=${M2_HOME}/bin:${PATH}

Give access executeable:

sudo chmod +x /etc/profile.d/maven.sh

Export config:

source /etc/profile.d/maven.sh

Install git centos:

sudo yum install git
